In defense of the Bat'leth

With the new Star Trek series on the horizon and the numerous changes (horrible in my opinion) the show runners have made to the beloved Klingons the topic of the Bat'leth has been bandied about on forums and Youtube recently. A great number of these comments have consisted of words such as stupid, dumb, unusable, and ridiculous. Many making these comments are self proclaimed "experts" and others obviously have never held a edged weapon beyond a Mall Katana and certainly have never held a Bat'leth. While I would never say the Batleth is a great weapon it is far from the useless peice of crap that these so called experts would like to believe. So lets start with a couple of facts about the origin of the Bat'leth. Surviving the Apocalypse: Insurance

I guess right after toilet paper the most important thing to have in a apocalypse is knowledge. The problem with knowledge is it's sort of like insurance if you wait to get it until SHTF then you really are SOL. The good thing is, thanks to the dreaded internet the information is out there if you have the ability to sort through the huge piles of crap to find the few grains of knowledge that are useful to you. A few of my favorite places to look are Google books, there are a multitude of free to read period books that contain info on living in the days of yore (before electricity, public utilities etc.). Mother Earth News, a long time supplier of info and DIY projects that could be helpful in a apocalypse, and of course Youtube, unfortunately it takes much sifting to find truly useful info that is not a self promotion. Bottom line search a lot now while you have time. Find what will be useful to you in your situation and discard the rest.

World War Z the audio book

Ok. First for any of you who actually read this I have to apologize for not posting recently. I could say it was because of some life changing even, but the truth is I just haven't felt up to it...so again sorry. Now to what this is about, I recently had the opportunity to listen to the unabridged, 12 hour, movie tie-in, audio book of World War Z by Max Brooks. First let me say I have no idea what kind of experience reading this work of fiction would be like, but listening to it was a truly enjoyable experience. It is a intelligent, well thought out, and realistic portrayal of a world wide zombie epidemic and it's aftermath. In my opinion it is by far the best zombie fiction out there, and the fact that it is preformed by a full cast of exemplary actors is just icing on the cake. I've read a lot of reviews that are negative, comparing it to all of the other hack and slash zombie flotsam and jetsam that is out there, and while it does not have the structure, the hero saving...
