In defense of the Bat'leth

With the new Star Trek series on the horizon and the numerous changes (horrible in my opinion) the show runners have made to the beloved Klingons the topic of the Bat'leth has been bandied about on forums and Youtube recently. A great number of these comments have consisted of words such as stupid, dumb, unusable, and ridiculous. Many making these comments are self proclaimed "experts" and others obviously have never held a edged weapon beyond a Mall Katana and certainly have never held a Bat'leth. While I would never say the Batleth is a great weapon it is far from the useless peice of crap that these so called experts would like to believe. With the advent of the cell phone, internet and other forms of mobile communication the once noble and somewhat ludicrous CB Radio has become little more than a footnote in the history of the 1970's. For those of you who don't know CB stands for Citizens band radio, a short to mid-range communication system used in days gone by. The CB was a fairly inexpensive, required no license or registration...a true citizens radio system, and while it did have it's short comings it was very useful for communication while on the move. Now to the reason for this post, in a SHTF or Martial law situation communication ie. cellphone, internet etc. will be suspended, limited, and/or heavily monitored. It is illegal to carry a dirk, dagger, or stiletto ( aka any fixed blade knife) with the intent to use it as a weapon against another, but they are legal to own. New York does not have concealed carry laws, therefore it is legal to open or conceal carry any knife that is legal to own and that the carrier does not intend to use unlawfully against another. The law provides that when a person is found in possession of a dirk, dagger, or stiletto, there is a presumption that the possessor intended to use it as a weapon against another. This presumption can be rebutted in Court; however, a person can still be arrested and charged with a crime, even if he or she did not intend to use the weapon unlawfully against another.
